Hari Asyura

As a reminder for fellow Muslims in Wales.

The 10th of Muharram // Hari Asyura in the Muslim calendar is just around the corner. It is one of the significant days in the Muslim calender where many amazing events involving the prophets, for example, it is the day when Allah gives His blessings, Allah created the Arasy, and the day God pardoned Adam a.s. after years of repent for disobeying God

On this day, Muslims would fast voluntarily during this day to show respect and remember the many history behind the day. Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. was said to fast during Asyura as it was the norm among Arabs in Makkah. When he migrated to Madinah, he found that the Jews also fast during the day. The tenth of Muharram for them is called Yom Kippur which also means ten.

Mu’awiyah ibn Abu Sufyan (Radiyallahu 'anh) relates: I heard the Messenger of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) say: "It is the day of ‘Ashura. Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) has not made fasting obligatory for you. But I am fasting. He who likes to observe fast among you should do so, and he who likes not to observe it (does not have to) observe it." [Sahih Muslim]

2009, 10th Muharram falls on the 27th December. we are encouraged to puasa sunat asyura on this day.

it is advisable to puasa for 2 days after 10th muharram, to membezakan puasa orang Islam and puasa orang yahudi.

27th (9th muharram), 28th (10th Muharram) and 29th (11th Muharram).
